My friend from Chile has just renewed his passport because it expires soon, and it had V-1 multiple entry visa. I was wondering if he needs to go through the entire process to get his V-1 visa for the new passport, or if they (Canadian embassy in Chile) can place his current visa on the old passport to his new passport. The visa expires in 2011.

If your friend still has the old passport he can travel without applying again. He would have to carry both the old and the new passports along with him.

Is that for sure? I mean, do you know anyone who has done it, will the immigration officers accept that?

Yes, one of my friend's has done that. Ask your friend to contact the Canadian Embassy in Chile to confirm with them.

Hi, I thought that Canadian embassies never issue visas longer than passport validity as a matter of policy?
