Im a temporary foreign worker in alberta and my work permit expires this Nov 09. Im pregnant and my due date is august. Can i apply for the extension of my stay here as visitor's visa until I could have another work permit renewed for me to stay legally here with my baby. How to apply for a visitor's visa? When and where?

Thank you.

Hi

You send in this form for change of conditions: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp

One thing to note though, if you extend as a visitor, you can't apply for another work permit in Canada, you would have to apply outside Canada at a US border port or US office.

Can she apply for EI benefits though even if she's holding a visitors visa later on?

She would have to talk to Service Canada about that.  One member of this board who was in that situation, that is pregnant and on a work permit about to expire was told that changing her status to visitor, she would still qualify to keep her AB health coverage and get EI.  Personally, I would be suspicious of that, I would want it in writing anyway Wink
