Hello Everyone,

I just received my Immigrant Visa in the mailbox.
But when I checked the name on the visa I found that my Given Name(ASHISH KUMAR) is moved to my Last Name.....I do not have a last name.
The same error happened with my work visa a year ago and the resulting name on my SIN card came out to be ASHISH ASHISH KUMAR.
I do not want the same mistake to happen again for my PR card. I sent an e-mail to buffalo to correct this mistake and their dumb reply was copy paste instructions which say that I should send my PP back with a letter mentioning why I want to change, when I want to land etc....

I do not want to waste another month to wait for my PP....It already took so long....

Can I change this issue when I land at Alberta-Montana border???

Please help

Thanks
Ashish Kumar

I am not sure what name is shown on your Confirmation of PR.  The officer at border will do the PR card with all information based on your confirmation of PR that is for sure, they might also look at your landing Visa. You might have a chance to explain to them it is a mistake and hope they can revise it for you.

Most of officers are very helpful and friendly. They should give you a clear instructions on how to fix this issue.

You can take your chance by goign to border directly to land. But it clearly says in the instructions that came with your passport request that if there is a mistake in your visa inform visa office immediately. I doubt that border officers can change that name but may be because it's the visa office that had all your documents and security checks. Youy might wanna call CBSA and ask if they can correct this mistake.

Thanks Jason111 and Umairz for replying. My past experiences with officers at the port of entry had been very unplesent. The last time the officer carried the mistake forward and said "sorry I can't change this and I know this is a mistake."..
So I can be very convinced that the officers will not correct this mistake.

1) Can I change this mistake later on after when I receive the PR card??(because I am pretty sure they will carry this mistake forward)
2) In the worst case if I send the PP back to buffalo can you please tell me how long it may take for them to return it??

I really do not want to waste any more time....This is very harassing Sad

1. It is always better choice if you can fix the problem at the first place. Try to contact Buffalo VO or whoever issue you the landing Visa and COPR let them know your name is printed wrong and ask if there is any way to fix it? You might also can phone CIC service number.

2. That also can be a option, but you need make sure they will process it. You don't expect they send it back without any change. So contact them to make sure then do your next move.

You are not the first person has such an issue and also not the last, they should have a solution to fix it.

What number can I contact the buffalo office regarding this? Will they entertain any telephone enquiry??
I tried calling the Mission's immigration number(716) 858-9501 but it's nothing but an automated answering machine with website addresses and e-mail addresses and it says they do not entertain telephone enquiries.

Try this one:1-888-242‑2100 The agent will only answer you general question. And Buffalo VO number is always auto record no body will answer it.

You best shot is make a specific case inquiry. Provide your basic contact info as well as your concern. They should contact very soon.

I read on this forum that people from certain countries have just one nanme. If that is the case for you, you should write a letter and explain this fact. CIC has the ability to verify this information and can make recommendations. Do not 'land' without correcting this error.

Yeah, well sadly that is the best option, I didn't wanna scare you before but if you had found an officer who wasn't in pelasent mood on the border, God knows what he would have done may be send you back or even refused you(But I doubt he could do that) but again you never know until you do something, right? So write a cover letter explaning your stuff and pack it up with your PP and send it back.

But I guess before you even do that you should make a case specific inquiry. There is a big difference between sending them an e-mail and Case specific enquiry. They will reply you what exactly you need to do and chances are they will reply the same day or next day.

Good Luck.

Here is a big update for all people who get their given names printed as their surnames in their landing document / visa.
DO NOT SEND BACK YOUR PP because its a total waste of time and money.

As I mentioned in my earlier posts that I sent back my PP with a cover letter explaining them what was wrong.......Guess what....they returned it with no change and a letter that says....

"Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your enquiry regarding the appearance of your name in PRV and COPR document.
Our policy states that when a given name and surname are not specifically separated on the passport or if there is no surname, the full name must be entered as one name.
As a result, no changes were made to your documents.
"

I sent a case-specific enquiry to them before sending the documents and the reply was again a copy paste message that can also be read on their website. So case-specific enquiries are no different.

All in all it was a total waste of my time and money. But I hope this piece of information could help someone facing the same situation like me.

Thanks everyone.
