According to the old rules, you had to stay in Canada 6 months out of every 12 months.  According to the new rules, you have to stay in Canada 2 years out of every 5 so the maximum days you can be gone in each 5 year period is 1095.  Excemptions if you are away with your spouse who is a Canadian citizen or you are away working for a Canadian company or you are away with your spouse who is also PR and is working for a Canadian company.
