I am a Cdn citizen sponsoring my husband who is from Jamaica  This is out second application - we first applied from within Canada, then a death within his close family called him home.

We have since applied again, from out side Canada and the waiting is killing us.  Approximately a month ago I received word by letter that I met the requirements and that his file is being forwarded to Kingston.  (side note - we were both approved the first time we applied).  We are now awaiting word from the office in Kingston.  He has completed his medical already.  The MPs office we have helping us asked us if he has received a B# (i am assuming this is the same as a AOR?  correct?)  Well he hasn't received any word from them at all.  What comes next?  ANyone who knows or is in this situation please help us/
Thank you

After Kingston receives the documents from Federal, it took spprox 4 months for Kingston to open my file for my husband.  Once teh file is open, the info will be updated on the On-line and he will receive a letter advising the file is now open with a new file number beginning with B#.

Then it will take sometime to be processed.  I am still waiting and this is now 8months.  I finally called my MP and the cannot find my Quebec acceptance which was sent to them in Jan.  Hence the file is still pending and they didnot do the police check.

Confident?  You have been waiting 8 months since they gave him a B#.  Wow!!  It's only been three months for us... guess I shouldn't be expecting much!  I've had my MPs office on the case for about a year now -- I hope they can help in some way.  I have recently faxed the office in Kingston requesting an update!  we'll see what happens.

You mean that the office in Kingston can't find your part of the application??? I swear to you, they seem so inefficient it's ridiculous!!

Well, best of luck to you and keep us updated!!

I too am going through the Kingston office.  Our case is pretty straight forward but I'm worried that we didn't submit enough proof!  We received our AOR in Jul, but it was dated March.  They have everything from prints to birth certificate and police certs.  We still haven't been initially assessed.  I have to wonder if this is bad news.  What do you think?

It seems like the Kingston office is one of the slowest processing offices globally.  Even Manila is faster...some times even faster than Buffalo!

Confident - 8 months!  My gosh!  What are they doing down there?

Here's to hoping that all our luck changes for the better and we get it soon.

Kingston is pretty slow!!  That may be an understatement however.  What do you mean by initially assessed?  Meaning your sponsorship?  DO they have oroginals of birth certificates & Marriage certif?  That's what they requested from us - and more "proof".  We sent pictures, tickets, emails, etc with the initial application, but whatever!  It seems like they stall alot.

Good Luck to all of us!
Keep us posted!

Frustrated Canadian...Initial Assessment is what they do in some cases.  Some people get it, others don't and its just to determine if they want more evidence or if they are happy with what they have and are ready to make a decision.

They have the photocopies of my birth certificate, and affidavits from us, and our parents (we're in still in school and have been dating for over 5 years, and living together for over 2).  We sent pictures, copies of bording passes, tickets etc, as well as a declaration of common-law union.  It seems like they are taking forever, and while that stresses me out, I'll just be glad if they waived the interview.

Have you heard of anyone who got their interview waived, and under what grounds?

Continue to hold strong, and I'll pray that we are all successful.
Let me know how things are going.

Update!

I just received an email from my MPs office (the office manager is helping us!).  [She has contacted the Ministry of Immigration several times for us].  The contacted her and told her that his file will be by a Officer on or around October 21st, 2008.  They say he will then either receive approval in the mail (mid-November) or they will ask for an interview or more information!!

Interesting to know that there are actual timelines given to applications.  I urge you guys to ask your MPs office to contact Immigration for you - it may help!!

Sincerely,
FC
