We are planning to move from Chicago to Winnipeg in the next few weeks and would like to understand the PR card application process. Does the application process start as soon as we land at the airport? Or do we need to apply ourselves later? Also, do they mail the PR card to our mailing address or do we have to go and collect it in person? If anyone who has recently gone thru the process help, it will be much appreciated. Thank you!

The PR card is processed at the same time you "land" .  They mail to a Canadian address in about 34 business days.

Thank you PMM for the response. I was just confused that in some of these forums, they say that they are told to pick up these cards from the office and it takes more 48 days or something?

why is that?

Renewed cards have to be picked up in person.

The 48 days was probably an old processing time for new PR cards. The processing time fluctuates regularly depending on volumes.
