just wondering for those who got their SIN number without their PR card yet, what proof of residency did you present? I still have my SIN that starts with "9" and i was told I have to wait for my PR card to have it changed to "7". is my PR certificate of landing accepted?

Dear whiteapple ,
It's very easy process to get your SIN No. Immediately after landing you can go any service canada office and you can show your landing document(COPR) and immediately u will get ur SIN no. In Canada SIN no is very imprtant for any job. And your Sin card will arrive with in 2-3 weeks in the address u have given.

Hope this info might help you.

Wish you Gud luck!!!

This is wrong and needs to be mentioned that it is different for whether you landed inland or outland.
whiteapple: Since you landed inland, the only way you could have gotten a SIN before PR card is if you had an OWP. You would then take the OWP with you to Service Canada and get a temporary SIN number before you land. You would then work on the temporary SIN until after you get the PR card. Once you get the PR card then you go and get you permanent SIN. If you did not get a temporary SIN before you landed then you will not be able to get a SIN before you get your PR card.

Outland they only need their COPR and visa counterfoil in their passport after they land to get a SIN. So as you can see, it different.

That's the best type of evidence:  shows where you were,an  when.

What other evidences maybe accepted? Has anyone come across of any guide line on cic website?

Thanks.
