m3the01, how did you get your health card?  I was told that you couldn't get it until three months after you landed and you needed your PR card for it!!!

Have I been waiting all this time for no good reason??

Interesting,

In Alberta,

We had within the first week of landing,

Alberta Health Card,
Social Insurance Number,
Alberta ID Card, now class 7 drivers license and doing the class 5 within the next couple weeks.

If you are moving to Alberta from another country you may be eligible for coverage on the date of your arrival.

hi Love_Young
please add me to the chart
i already mantioned my landing
checked and add me
thank you in advance
JMA

I will jma! I may have not added you if you didn't list all the info needed for the chart like: current location, date of landing, etc. And it is nice if the dates list month, day, and year. Smiley I will most certainly add you though, don't you worry.

Still waiting. Flight cancelled for last friday... Sad lost $400 bucks for this card. Canada post sucks

I am so sorry to hear that sankalp. Sad I hope you get your card very soon.

Well, I finally called too.  I landed on April 21, so it's almost 10 weeks now.  In 2 weeks, I need to apply for my BC drivers license and I need the PR card for that.  Not sure how they deal with it if I do it after 90 days, but what choice do I have?  Lucky I don't have travel plans, except to the USA in 2.5 weeks (by car, so it's not an issue).

So....they said my card is "in process" but hasn't been made yet.  The agent said that she would add a note that I called about it and hopefully that would speed things up as it is already overdue.  I see that someone who landed on April 26 has their card ready to send out, so I guess they don't always do them in order.

I also found out that they just send it via regular mail.  Not certified or anything.  Crazy.

I just need this and then my health card and I'll finally be done with all this stuff.

Hopefully they can make your card soon. And wow, I would have at least thought they would mail it in a safer way. Hmm... I am just waiting to get my SIN card to work. I got my OWP the same day I got called for my landing interview and wasn't able to get a temporary one beforehand. And of course after I got PR, I tried to get my SIN card but they wouldn't accept just the COPR. For inland, you need to have your PR card as proof. *sigh*  Sad I hope it isn't going to be but at least one more month before I can start really looking for work and stop feeling like a visitor.

Hi LY and every body,

I need your help.

I have to leave Canada on 15 July and a friend of my is going to mail me the PR card after arrival. I have to leave Canada because my Mother is sick and my family has token her to another country for treatment.

In case If I PR card lost in the mail, I have to apply for Travel document outside Canada at the Canadian Visa Office.

Do you think I will face any problem in getting travel document, My concern is , in the application it written if I have stayed in Canada for 730 days while I did my landing just few days ago. I am really confused if you would please help me. Here is the link if you would kindly have a look at it and then tell me your advise thanks.

You do not need PR card for SIN and Health card or even for opening a bank account. COPR document, rental aggrement and your passport is enough.

hmm, that's odd, I wonder why that would be any different for inland vs. outland.  The SIN card (or rather "number") is the ONLY thing that I didn't have to wait for.  I got that one right away and it took 5 minutes.  Although it wasn't even urgent for me since I have my own business, so the only difference is that it's registered in Canada now rather than in the US.

Yup, it's quite different for inland applicants.  Since we don't have the foil attached to our passports we can't apply for a permanent SIN until we have our PR card.  I know it sucks big time, especially now that it takes 2-3 months to receive the PR card.

I think it depends on the local office where you land. I got my permanent SIN the same day I landed at the same CIC office. They told us better to get it now than wait until after you get the PR card.

No need to be sad everyone! We are blessed enough to be celebrating this Canada Day with our family and as new residents. How wonderful is that? And tomorrow is my one month anniversary of being a PR. Lol. I am going to make a cake tonight with one half the USA flag and the other the Canada flag to celebrate both the Fourth of July and Canada Day. This shall be fun.  Smiley
