Hi Valy 79,
That is good to know, since I landed on 21 July and still have not got my PR cards. And they are telling me that there are not issues, just a delay... who knows.
Anyway, I have both Spanish and American passports, so I am assuming that I could go back into Canada even withouth my PR cards. IN fact, the immigration officer who let us in initially told us that we should not have any problems if we needed to travel outside of Canada before the PR cards arrived. We just did not expect them to take longer than 3 months and counting...

By the way, cool to see an Austrian citizen in this forum, not many of them here. HOw is life treating you in Canada so far?

Heh, oh CIC... You continue to find ways to mess things up with my file and cause unnecessary delays.

So, after having called last week (October 13) to see what the hold-up was with my PR card, and being told to wait 10 business days, CIC actually called me back today. It was the same agent who handled my initial call. It turns out that the port of Fortune, where I landed, messed up my details enough so that my PR card processing was never even started. They told her today that they would "correct" my information by the end of the day. Because of this, I'm to expect my PR card in 39 business days from now -- on December 14. Just as if I landed today instead of August 2.

There shouldn't be anymore problems after this, but with CIC... who knows. I'll mark my calendar and wait. All I can say is that it's a damn good thing that I don't absolutely NEED it right now.

You should apply for a new passport as soon as possible to avoid complications later on. Since you probably won't be returning to your home country, perhaps you can apply from the embassy for you country? I know I am able to get a new UK passport without returning to the UK. It used to be from the embassy in Ottawa, but now I have to apply to Washington.

Do some research, you should find your answer.

Hi,

I don't know if this is the best post to ask this question but once you land, can you apply for a SIN card and start working right away or do you have to wait til you have your PR card in hand before you can start working?

If you land inland most offices won't let you get a SIN without the PR card. ( Unless you had an OWP already)

No SIN, no working.....Hence the frustration so many of us are feeling.....Outland, you have the foil in your passport and can apply for SIN right away.

i went to Service canada few days ago, I applied inland sponsorship and landed in september 2011. I went there to ask if i can start working now. they said, as long as your prospect employer recognize your COPR then you can start working, have tax deductions. i even asked them if they can issue a cheque now under my name and they said that's no problem as long as it's okay for the employer. the SIn will be needed in the end of the year for tax contribution anyways.

It all depends on the rep. you get on the call. In fact in reading the threads here, I noticed a good number of people waited well beyond the mandated wait period (including myself) and our PR had not been touched yet. Only after us calling that they then contacted the PR office in Sydney, NS. Which then has an 30 day wait period.

I would say, it's your right so be shameless but be polite as well. Good Luck.

Glad more and more people are getting their cards after long lul these past few months.
I thought that the e-CAS website is for checking the status of one's application status (pre landing stuff). Do you mean you were able to see if your card got printed/created/mailed etc on the e-CAS site?
Can you post the exact e-CAS site address in case I have the wrong one or something.
