Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the Berlin office. We got our PPR already (almost less than a month after they started processing). Both my partner and I are pretty shocked at this, but we sent off her passport on Friday. I've been reading that some offices will ask for the passport before they finish processing the application. I was just wondering if anyone knows how the Berlin office operates? Should we be expecting them to issue the PR or not?

Ok apparently there doesn't seem to be a lot of experience with the Berlin office... so if anyone could maybe make general comments on where they think the situation is going that would help!

I'm not personally going through the Berlin although my bf is German.  A friend of ours from Germany recieved her passport back 13 days after she sent it.  So according to this they don't request it early.

I asked a friend of mine who processed through the Berlin office...she said that it only too about 8 weeks for her PPR, and she got it back 2 and a half weeks later, visa attached. It seems that Berlin is fairly speedy Smiley

Hi there, I realize this was posted a long time ago.
However, my boyfriend and I are in a similar situation. Our application was received on April 1, 2011 in Canada. I was accepted as a sponsor on May 6th. They received it in Berlin on May 12th. Then they started processing in Berlin on May 25th. At some point this week (today is the 28th) he received a letter asking for him to send his passport for visa issuance. Since we were expecting the 13 months it is safe to say we were shocked. We are trying not to get our hopes up too high, just in case there is something we are not aware of yet. Are there many people in a similar situation. How long does it take to get the passport back?

Thanks for any comments Smiley

I was just wondering, how did you all answer the question about when you are planning to move to Canada? We are planning to move next spring but will send our application soon, does it make any difference if you say you will move as soon as possible or next spring? Will they process it faster if you say you will move this year?

we didnīt say at what date we want to move. we assumed that the process will take about 13 month, so we would have enough time to get prepared.

that it will go so fast, thatīs very surprising and unexpected and super cool!!!!!!!!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

First off Congrats Hopetoland Smiley seems like we are in a similar situation.

I dont think that we said we would be moving this year. Although, my visa for germany ends in October. However, I am taking German classes here so I hope to get my time here extended a little longer. We assumed that my boyfriend wouldn't be able to move to Canada until March next year. Therefore, I dont think it matters when you say you are going to be there. If it is under family class, I think it is just important that you prove that your relationship is genuine. I know we had a lot of pictures from the duration of our relationship and we put a lot of effort into our application. So I am not sure if that had any impact on the quick processing... or if Berlin is just always that quick.

oh you think thats a good sign, oh wow, iīm really thrilled. what i was reading here on the forum and on the website, it made me believe that berlin is one of the slowest. maybe they read the forum!!! Wink Wink Wink Wink

we didnīt put much in the application and they also asked for more evidence of relocation.

i think the fact that we are married since 3 years and that we live together made them believe that we are ok.

my husband attended german classes too. but he gave up, lol !!! how are you doing with learning german???

When Berlin requests the passport it means they're ready to issue the visa.  You'll receive it back with your visa affixed.  You need to land in Canada by the expiry date on it.  You can land in Canada and return to Germany if you have any unfinished business.  Congrats on the super fast processing!

From what I have read it seems like its definitely a good thing. We are trying not to get too excited just because it seems too good to be true with the fast processing. But everything I have read online indicates they want it to print the visa and that it seems to be completed in a few weeks to a month. My german is coming along slowly. I understand the grammar and my writing is fairly good, but I am still pretty terrible at speaking. We applied as a conjugal partnership, we are not married but have been together for a couple years.

Are you living with your husband in Germany. Did you send in your passport yet? I posted another topic about sending the passport. It is titled "Can't obtain DHL account number to send Passport despite Berlin's request". Basically we are not sure what to do because Berlin asked us to give them an account number from DHL for when they send the passport back. Unfortunately, DHL does not give account numbers for private customers. Therefore, we dont know what to do.

In our letter where they requested the passport it says:

we require the following documents:

Valid passport or travel document for yourself for visa issuance.

That sounds good to me, I just hope they don't keep the passport for months before they return it and issue the visa. One of our initial thoughts was maybe they require it to do some kind of further background check. However, I think we are just confused by how fast it is being processed and we are consequently looking for reasons that they might have asked for it so soon. Regardless, we are super excited and I hope this news is as good as it seems!
