My husband just lost his father and is going to his funeral in Portugal but his PR card experied. Should he go to Paris to get a travel document or should he come back to Canada since Portuguese citizens don't need a visa to enter the country?
Any advice would be much appreciated!

He will need to get a PRTD simply to board a plane back to Canada as having a visa exempt passport is irrelevant for a PR but a PR card or PRTD is required. This is due to the fact a visa exempt PR cannot apply for an ETA.

Otherwise would need to travel back via the US land border. No idea about Paris but if using the US option will of course need an ESTA to fly via into the US

Thank you for your time.
He doesn't want to go through the US and the only closer vac to apply for the TD document is Paris do you have any idea of the waiting time when he goes to apply in person .he has booked a flight to Canada on the 7 June .The funeral is Thursday he is thinking going to Paris in friday morning apply and try to go back to Portugal before the 7. I'm worried about it but he thinks it will be fine.

Make sure you call during their local business hours (note time difference to Paris).

Also there is a "chat" feature on the contact page to chat online with someone live. No idea how well this feature works though.

I've used the chat function in the Asian country I'm sitting in, and they are pretty quick to respond.

Just to let you know that husband got his PRTD, he delivered his application on May 31 and he got it today June 6 it took 4 working days they say you shouldn't count the day you give your application but he had to pay extra to accelerate the process almost $500 but at least he won't miss his flight tomorrow from Portugal he is flying from France to Portugal tonight .People don't let your PR card expire it could get expensive!
Thanks again for your assistance!!
