Post-grad work permit - can I get it at the border?

I get a post-grad work permit as a graduate of the school I attended but the work permit process is way too slow. I'm a visual effects artist and there's LOTS of jobs right now that definitely won't be there by the time I get my permit (74 days is ridiculous in my opinion).
I've already made a mail application but the company I interviewed for yesterday is keen to take me on board. However, the time it takes for this work permit to come through may mean they just have to go with someone else.
At risk of losing out on this job or the many others going, is there a way to cancel my application and go to the border instead to get the work permit sooner if I can get a stated job offer/contract with the company?
I was informed by another student that did something similar with a contract in hand, a "Point of Entry" package, the application fee, and reference of 2 years experience in their field (which I can also create a list of).
PLEASE help me out! I think it's ridiculous it's such a long wait! I may as well go home and work in London at this rate! I love living in Vancouver but in another 2 months time, there's not going to be any jobs for months! I already have a student visa, they've done all the checks necessary to just stamp an approval on the entitled work permit so I'd LOVE to speed up this process. I don't want to go home and leave such a good opportunity behind!
