Hi,

My husband and I applied for outland spousal sponsorship in June, sending all of the fees up front, it is being processed in Buffalo (no idea why, I'm British he's Canadian!)

In August he was approved as a sponsor and Ecas reflects that, along with "application recieved for permanent residence".

Today hubby gets a cheque back from CIC for $465 with no explanation as to why.

Would anyone be able to either confrm or deny that this may well be e refund of the processing fees due to  initial review rejection? We've had no correspondance from CIC explaining this - just a cheque.

Am terribly worried right now Sad

You don't state how much you paid CIC.  I know you said you paid all the fees upfront, but maybe you should double check how much was charged, especially if you had a problem when it was going through.

The refundable fee (the RPRF) is $490.00, not $465.00.  You would receive a denial of the application first before they refunded you out of the blue.

Little confused on why your app is in Buffalo, not London, unless you were initially admitted to Canada for a year?  That's odd, for sure.

Call the Call Centre, someone might know something.

How much did you pay in the first place? You might have overpaid, and this is just a refund.

Thanks for the replies, we paid $1040, the processing fee along with the RPRF. Following research and advice, mirrored above, I feel a little better about the fact that corrspondance preceeds refund and not vice versa.

Hopefully all is ok Smiley
