My wife's case is in process since Sep 14. Last week we received note from the Consulate to get Police Clearance from a couple of states where we lived. Is this something they just randomly send out?
I noticed in one another forum that applicants' whose file was started after ours are receiving passport request..

Any advise appreciated.

As far as I know you were supposed to include Police Clearance from every state that the applicant lived in for a year or more... so if you didn't include these in your original application, then they need these in order to continue processing. More then likely the person who's file was processed after you had all the required documents, including the state police clearances.

Exact same thing happened to us. They started processing on Sept 17th in Buffalo and we got a request for the police clearances from 2 states even though we originally sent them in with the application. We waited over a month for them and now we have to pay for them again plus wait another month before they come back
We emailed the Buffalo consulate to ask what we did wrong the first and got a response that was useless. I suggest you do ti as soon as possible and make sure you get the fingerprints done as well.

Yes. I have actually requested the 2 states where we lived to send us the clearances. We had initially sent the clearances from all the countries we had lived but no where were we asked to send in the clearance from the states.

Had I known I could have gotten this in the last 2 months and submitted. Unnecessary waste of time I would think..

The same thing happened to me. The CIC website has now been updated to say that you need to send state police certificates.

I am a Vietnamese citizen, currently staying in US as a F1 student visa since May 2009, I sent the application on 31 Aug 2009. I just attached my police clearance in Vietnam, not in US cause I have been staying here for 4 months since i submit my application. I dont know is it any problem with that???

No, since it was only 4 months there is no problem. They may request police certificates later if they need them.
