Hello everyone,

I'm facing a rather odd difficulty right now : I'm trying to get the certificates from three individual states in the US (I'm in Canada), but one of them - New York State - accept only money orders issued by USPS, Western Union or MoneyGram, all of which issue money orders only on-location in the US. It seems that they don't accept the international money order issued by CanadaPost. Also the Western Union in Canada stopped issuing money orders in the USD. I also contacted a US bank about certified bank cheque (cashier's cheque) but they told me that I can get it only at one of their branches in the US. I feel like it's a dead-end?!

Any sugggestion will be much appreciated ... Thank you!

Get a friend or family member in the US to buy the money order for you, send it to you and then you can send it with the request for the police clearance.  I know it's jumping through hoops but it will work.

Ask them if they would accept Western Union money order in Canadian Funds equivalent to the US amount... its worth a shot Smiley That puts you in a bit of a pickle doesnt it? rjessome's advice is good as well.. a bit of a run around for it but what else can you do?

Thank you rjessome and Boncuk for your replies !

Yes, you're right ... I don't mind the fact that it's a bit of a run around - I no longer have family member nor many friends remained in the States, hence the difficulty Sad But I'll for sure ask around a bit and see what I can do!

I don't understand a bank telling you they won't issue a US funds money order.  Try TD Canada Trust - you can purchase US funds money orders through them.  Now, whether the State of New York will accept it or not is the question, but everyplace else in the States where I've sent them hasn't had a problem.
