Hi raabhim,

A question to you :

Did you apply or planning to apply?
Is it family class ( sponsored by some one ) ?. or other category ?

The Visa processing office will ask you to submit a Canadian Police certificate, when/if,  required.

Yes, you need an FBI record.  No, you don't need one for Canada, they will do their own checks.  You are required to submit a record for every country you lived in for more than 6 months after turning 18, except Canada.

Your above question put me into little confusion ( really does not make any difference!), as I was thinking that you are under FSW and posted in Family class.
Hope you got the answer already. Good luck!!

No, you don't need to travel there for it.  Follow this link for information on how to obtain it:

You can have it done without traveling or leaving Canada. Hope this mean't help!!!

Step 1!!
If you are in Canada..Go to the nearest police station. Tell them you need to get your fingerprint done. There is a price for that but not sure of the amount so it's depends on the province you live in. But you have to be specific by telling them is for immigration so the it can be done in the appropriate fingerprint card.

Step 2!!
Fill out/print out the application form on this link here.....http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/background-checks/applicant-information-form

Step 3!!
If you are paying with Credit card you must fillout/printout the form on this link......http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/background-checks/credit-card-payment-form.....OR.....Note!! Obtain a money order or cashiers check for $18 U.S. dollars made payable to the Treasury of the United States.

Step 4!!
Put the following into one envelop :-fingerprint on step 1, The application form on step 2 and Money order on step 3

Finally Step!!
Mail it to....
FBI, Criminal Justice Information Services Division
Attention: SCU, Mod D-2
1000 Custer Hollow Road
Clarksburg, West Virginia 26306
U.S.A.

Goodluck!!
