I am very confused about the validity period of police certificates. Why does it say in the Document Checklist for Skilled Workers, under item 18 (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5612E.pdf) that "police certificates are generally considered to be valid for one year from date of issue; therefore, depending on the processing time of your application, you may be requested to submit new certificates"

BUT on this page (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/intro.asp) it says "The certificate must have been issued no more than three months before you submit your application."

Does it mean that I have to make sure that the police certificate has been issued no more than 3 months when I submit my application... but if the application process takes longer than a year, then they would have to ask me for a new one?

What if I submitted the application on February 10 but the police certificate was issued on November 5 (therefore the 3rd month would be February 5), would they still accept it?

Thanks for the advice...

it is a  general  rule of CIC  that a PCC should have obtained within 3 months of submitting the application.
If the  PCC is more than 3 months old but only with few days difference,  when received at CIO, there is no possibility for a rejection. But we can't tell what is in the mind of the document examining person at that time. However, it is not a serious problem. It could go to the visa office and the reviewing officer may perhaps (??) ask for a new PCC. A rejection will not happen only for this reason. Applicant will be given a chance to submit updated PCC.

Regarding expiry of PCC when "in process" more than a year, still the VO would ask to submit a new PCC accordingly.

In my case the VO already asked for new FBI Certificates. My old ones expired in 17.nov.2011.
My mistake that I did not check this date and I did not submit for new FBI cetrif. in oct. (it takes up to 8 weeks for processing+1-2 weeks for the mail).
VO gave me a 90 days deadline. Now I am really against the wall, the only hope is that the FBI will not be that bussy and it will take 2 weeks less. Huh

Hi alexchristi, thanks for sharing your experience. When you said that your old PCC "expired" in nov 17, 2011 - what do you mean by "expired"? Was it issued in nov 17, 2010? or august 17, 2011?

Thanks for clarifying... I really hope a few days after the 3rd month is ok Smiley

My example should be a lesson to all.
Go and check all you documents many times, and also make notes for the docs that have a "expiry date".
It will save you time and headache.

I wasted 3 months and I am not sure if I will be able to get the new  FBI certificates before april 11th to the VO in Bucharest. Huh

Dear alexchristi

I need some advice from you

I had prepared my PCC on 9th June, 2011 that had passport number mentioned in it. That passport expired on June 30, 2011. I got another passport that is valid until 30 June 2016. I accompanied photocopies of new passport  and original old PCC with my application that reached CIO on 31st August 2011. I got my PER on 28 November 2011 and am waiting for the MR.

Now, the question is that should I prepare a new PCC (with updated passport number), write an explanation and send it to the LVO or just let them catch the inconsistency and inform me.

My aim is to minimize the chances of any delaying factor. Please advise. Huh

Can someone confirm if the 90 days deadline is extended by CHC in case of cases where the PCC's are not received from FBI/other countries.

Hi Otimist22222,

As per the requirement of the CIO you have taken the PCC with in 3 months of applying. Congrats for your PER.

You have just renewed your passport & your new passport contains old passport number in the last page which matches your PCC. It will not be an issue.

In case if London VO needs at a later stage they may ask for new one once you are on 'Inprocess' along with MR. That is where security/criminality checks starts.

Where are you currently residing? Just make sure if required you can get new PCC in a week if required.

Always make sure to send the documents/MR/PP as soon as they ask for and not wait for deadlines. This speeds up your process.

All the best.

It is possible if you request visa office explaining the situation, the moment they send request.
Why wait start applying now it it takes more time and be ready.
All the best.

that was also my point. If you have 30 days until PCC expires, apply for new one immediately and save yourself the stress and headache that I am going through.
