Hello everybody,

How many points do I get for the following yrs of education:

Secondary (Grade 10)- 10yrs
Postsecondary (Grade 12)- 2yrs
B.Sc - 2yrs
M.Sc - 2yrs
Ph.D - 5 years

Is Ph.D counted towards "Formal education" ? Without Ph.D I have 16yrs, will that mean I will get 22points?
Do I have to provide any letter of reference that my Ph.D program was for 5 years?

Why is your BSc 2 years, Normally in India it is 3 years.
Have you completed a 3 year course in 2  years???

Hi Nano,

Unfortunately, the place (Rajasthan) and time I did my B.Sc had the option of either 11 (grade)+3yrs or 12 (grade)+2yrs to obtain a B.Sc degree. I have had many problems later because of this situation latter...but there was nothing I could do.

I am doubtful if I could full points for Ph.D.

In any case your total years of educatiaon are more than 17 and you have a PHD.
You get 25 points if you have a master degree(with 17 years). So for PHD you must get 25 points.

That is the dilemma.....with Masters I have 16yr of formal education. Now, if Ph.D is considered as formal education (?) then I will have 21yrs of education and fetch me 25 points....if not then I will probably have 22 points. Correct me if I am wrong.

Without Ph.D, you would be awarded 22 points for 16 yrs full time study, however, if you are able to provide the supportive documents for Ph.D, you would obtain 25 points( I obtained 25 points for 22 years) for current FSW scheme as the points given for 6 selection factors might have been amended in advance.

Thanks Nano, Kathe and Mezo,

In the same vein my next question is related to the IMM 0008 Generic form for FSW category. Question # 12 is related to education and asks for -How many years of formal education do you have? Is the answer 16yrs (10+2+2+2= 16yrs) or 21 yrs (10+2+2+2+5= 21yrs) ? I will be able to provide supporting documentation for Ph.D.

PHD is formal education.
But Post doc is not. Its a job.

Hence your PHD will be counted in education and Post doc in job.

What is the school system in your country! In most countries, schooling system goes for 12 years. If you study at school for 12 years, then you put 21 yrs, if not, and yet post secondary is considered official, then it's 21, if not, then it's 19 yrs.

By all means, don't worry, you already crossed the 17 yrs+master/PhD needed for 25 points
