1- what could be the problems if i take upto 50K or so
2-will this have later affect in anyway after i start living
3- what is the best way to take this amount...i'm thinking 10,000 cash and 40,000travellers cheques.....is it ok....what could be he problems??

Hi,
I did'nt see in Canada any problem for bringing more money when landed as PR. Of course bringing more cash is not safe because you are travelling. As you said you can limit the cash to 10,000 and balance in the form of   TC or demand draft. There is no maximum limit for bringing  money while landing and not taxable.  But later you may be taxed for the interest accrued from the deposits, when applicable. You should declare the money exceeding CAD 10,000/- while landing to CBSA.

I think qorax said the more money you bring to Canada the better it is.
You can bring any amount which you like to bring to Canada, no questions will be asked. You would have to declare to the CBSA.
Bringing 50 K or more it is all right. You can bring $5000 in cash for immediate use and rest in the shape of TC/ DD/Bankers cheque- payable in CAD and in Canada.

Open an account here in Scotia from UK, see if options available or with HSBC in CAD and wire transfer the money it might save on the cost....try the options...and what all rest have mentioned here is correct. Just declare the amount and source....good luck

Bro, u heard me wrong (thanx Explorer), or u r quoting me out of context.

1. No problems (at all).
2. None whatsoever.
3. The '80-20 rule' --> 80% Draft/s - 20% Cash (including TCs).

1. If u have it - why do u want it to be left behind?
2. If the 20K is the min funds [as per CIC table] for your case, that'd be fine. Else, No.
3. Yes, he can send it thru DHL -- in 90% cases couriering is quite safe; but do u want to be in the 10%?

Hi Qorax......thanks for your post

1. If u have it - why do u want it to be left behind?1. In fact when we leave UK, there're lots of problems atthe airport. UK BorderForce is not cooperative at all. They don't want people to take money out of the country especially in the form of cash and TC's. If you do have these 2 modes of cash, UK border bothersand bugs you a lot ans asks you to pass through a lot of various and weird official procedures.....they don't mind if you are taking upto 2000 pounds.... i jope u understand

3. Yes, he can send it thru DHL -- in 90% cases couriering is quite safe; but do u want to be in the 10%?

could u plz. explain alittle bit more.... how can those 10% people be affected....do they lose their money or what
thanks

Better have it with you as you exit the UK. Also I think courier companies generally don't like transporting monetary instruments in any form.

A few questions...

What is wrong with opening a premier account with a bank like HSBC?
http://www.hsbcpremier.com/1/2/hsbcpremier/en/home

Why would you want to carry that amount of cash or TC?

Why do you want to suffer the hassle of UK border agency?

There are far easier and safer ways to move money.

For example, we can also take a bank draft as well. And if we r returning - we can always bring the draft back (w/out opening a Canadian Bank A/c) - then cancel it, submitting it back to the originator bank.
