Hello,

See my responses in red, hope that helps.

Regards,

OM

Thanks OM.
I obtained my bachelor and master degree in China. Then I got Ph.D degree and another bachelor degree in the U.S. Currently I am working in the U.S. as a H1B visa holder.
The CIC checklist said Chinese diploma needs to be evaluated under “Visa Office Specific Requirement” forBeijing or Hong Kong Applicants. Since I am living in the U.S., am I subject to this requirement? Also, the checklist said only needs to verify the highest diploma, that means I need to verify the master degree only, not for bachelor also? Pls help. Thanks. I also do not understand they single out Chinese applicants.

Hello BKD1969,

You are right, it will just be your Master's Degree you'll need to get evaluated. I'm not sure why they have this 'special requirement' for China, best to give them what they want. Sounds like you would need to do it regardless of your US qualifications. Hope that helps.

Cheers,

OM

OM, Thanks, as always.

I will do it just in case. It only delays my application a little bit, but it is okay. The least thing I want to see is CIO returns my application just for this reason. Now, sorry, more questions. I think these questions are also important for other new applicants.

1) How to understand "copy" in CIC check list? You mentioned all the copies need to be notarized. But I did not see the notarization requirement in the checklist. a defense strategy only? Pls help.
2) I specifically applied Chase credit card for international travelers, no foreign currency charge (3%), expiring in 2015. it has $5000 limit, which can enough cover the CIC application fees. I do not see the possibility CIC will not get money from my card whenever they want to use. The beauty to use the credit card is that I can immediately know the fee has been charged, compared to the money order that yo have to go to bank to check if the transaction has been completed or not. Thanks, OM

Hi,

If you look at the application guide for PNP it clearly states that all copies should be notarised, I copied and pasted the section from the instruction guide,

Certified true copies

To have a photocopy of a document certified, an authorized person must compare the original document to the photocopy and must print the following on the photocopy:

“I certify that this is a true copy of the original document”,
the name of the original document,
    the date of the certification,
    his or her name,
his or her official position or title, and
    his or her signature.

Who can certify copies?

Persons authorized to certify copies include the following:

In Canada:

    a commissioner of oaths
    a notary public
    a justice of the peace

Outside Canada:

    a judge
    a magistrate
    a notary public
an officer of a court of justice
a commissioner authorized to administer oaths in the country in which the person is living

Family members may not certify copies of your documents.

On your second question, your credit card should be good then. I got a bank draft because i use my credit card everyday and didn't want to run the risk of not having adequate funds when CIC try to charge it.

OM

Hi Manubobby,

Nothing as yet, just from  reading posts on this forum and others, I don't expect to hear from them for about 3 months at a minimum. It would be great to hear from them earlier! Hang in there Smiley

OM_CHIEF:

I revisited CIC PNP guide line. It did address how to prepare certified copies but failed short to say what docs need to be certified. It looks like only translation docs needed to be certified based on the order of wording. Anyway, first, CIO needs update their check list by clearly indicating "certified copies", rather than let us guessing. Second, I will certify/notify all of them. $1.5 per doc.

that's really true, we have to wait maximum 3 months before we hear from them... my sponsors told me 'bout it, but, hoping that we will receive news before that... huh.. really a lot of waiting...

hi bkd1969,

I did not submit "notarized" copies of my documents since it is already in English and translation is not required so I guess photocopies of the original docs will be fine. As per my understanding, if the documents is translated into English, then you must submit a "notarized" or certified copies as required...that is my opinion regarding this matter. I hope the VO officer will find my application complete as per their checklist, crossing my fingers on it Smiley

Translation of documents
Any document that is not in English or French must be accompanied by:

•the English or French translation; and
•an affidavit from the person who completed the translation; and
•a certified copy of the original document.

As an experience folk, could you please share how you submit your application with new comers? Did you send certified copies of docs, such as birth certificate, education diploma, employer references, etc?  thanks!

Hi bkd1969,

Yes, I did submit certified copies of the documents of every document that I submitted .. The reason I did that was, as per the old checklist they had mentioned all photocopies must be notarized... so i just got mine certified to be on the safer side... its not very expensive to get it notarized here Smiley
