Im being sponsored by my wife , we got married last summer , a complete package was sent to Mississauga. On deliver confirmation it shows that the package has been received on Feb 25th , however we have not received any information or receipt from immigration.


-Me ( the person being sponsored ) was in the US illegally for the past 7 yrs , was detained and removed from the USA in 2001 for verbally false claim to US citizenship.

Attorney has requested to filed a criminal rehab along with PR application to be on the safe side or if required. Its been over 6 years since the removal, clean record after 2001.

1.-Would I received an approval in principal ?
2.-would I need to have the criminal rehab application approved before they start working on the PR application ?
3.-Can I apply for a work permit after the approval in principal or because of my record (false claim to US citizenship) wont be receiving an approval in principal ?
4.-How long does it take to have the criminal rehab approved ?
5.-After criminal rehab approved , do i have to wait another 3 to 9 months wait for the PR application to be approved ?


We both live in BC , application for PR is going to be processed in Mexico City , wait time can be up to 9 months per their website.

1.  Approval/Refusal Mississauga 32 days for the sponsorship.
2.  It is very unlikely that you will require rehabilitation as it was an Immigration charge not a criminal charge. As you applied "outside Canada", you don't receive approval in principle.
3.  You cannot apply for a work permit as your application is being processed "out of Canada"  You would have to obtain an LMO from an employer, and since you are probably banned from the US you would not be able "flagpole" to activate it.
4.  I assume you included FBI and State checks with the application as well as a Mexican criminal record will have to be obtained when Mexico city asks. .

3.  Right up front
4.  If they decide you need rehab, then thats when the wait will start.
5.  Good luck try to convince Mexico City that you haven't been in Mexico since the age of 16, but you never know, they will send you the instructions on how to obtain the Mexican PCC, if required.

About proving to Mexico City that I haven't live in Mexico since age 16th , would US school transcripts ( records ) satisfy the request , or is up to Mexico City officials discretion ?

What about interviews, any idea what to expect on an interview if required. at what point in the process would they notify us if an interview is required?  would they interview us together ? what type of questions would they focus on ? regarding our plans we have after I received the PR , or about our relationship as couple ? can you elaborate on the subject of interviews?

Just a question when you were removed in 2001 where were you removed to, Mexico I assume and you immediately headed back to the US?

yes , I went back to the US, was in the US for the past 7 yrs without status. went to mexico city and fly direct to canada , currently on tourist visa until may
