if English is not your first languaje it is much likely that you will be asked to take the IELTS

Ist step is to visit www.cic.gc.ca.  You will have an option for FRENCH or ENGLISH information. 

2nd. choose your NOC  http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp and read that page right at the bottom you will see [canadian National Occupational Classification]  you will choose your carreers there and earn points depending on your years of experience.

Of course ielts is very important.
