From my experience, I have seen people writing exam with just 3 days of crash course and scoring 8 band,
and people taking 2-3 months time for studies and not scoring even 6.5-7 band.
So, I feel, its all depending on,

1.how many hours u spend on studying,practicising?
2. how dedicated you r?
3. how far your grasping power developed??
4.how much time you allow yur mind to be in English pool in a day, sort of watching english movie, or newspaper , magazine, etc??
So, It is not important how many months u need to study??
how well u prepare on each day, how confident and positive u r counts so much than other criteria.
So go confidently, you will do excellently....wishing u all the best.

If you will start studying for 2 days in a week, than I guess 2 months to achieve at least 7 total band score. What you need to do is find a quite place where you can start with listning and reading modules. Once you understand the exam pattern than you need to just pactise more and more. Have all the necessary arrangements like books, Cd'S and CD player. If you are spending 6 hours in those two days than make sure that there are no distractions. More than english, IELTS is more about concentration and speed. Give lot of importance to spellings, as you can't afford to loose any points. Once you are completely done with listning and reading part than you just need to spend couple of days for writing part. If you can hold on to descent conversation in english than you can spend one day to just understand the speaking module or interview part.
