I just called again, and the rep was very helpful unfortunately they hvae rejected my prints again. This just leaves me devastated since we've been working on this since March, have spent huge $ on postage, have submitted several sets of fingerprints.... and now we're already 30 days into our 90 day deadline from the Canadian consulate. I'm going to have my fingerprints done +again+, but I just don't know whats going to make this set any different from the last 7, and this is the only thing holding up our application for PR. I'm so frustrated and I'm starting to feel like this is just utterly hopeless.
7? wow. when you talked to the FBI, did they give you any tips or tell you what was wrong with your prints? |

adetia, where are you going to get your prints done? Were they all from the same place? My prints that got accepted finally were done at a crime lab. I am so so so so sorry to hear about your story.  |

I have tried two installations of the RCMP as well as a Commissionaires office. I just heard from someone that their is a place in Lethbridge that can take prints electronically that should "approve" the prints before it allows you to do the next fingerprint, then can be printed off.... so I'm going to try sending that + another traditional set in.
The FBI just says there isn't enough ridge detail, that the fingerprints are good but that there's just not enough detail. I guess my fingers must be defective, heh. I don't really know what to do.

Try to have whoever takes your prints write a letter saying these are the best attainable prints (police officers can do this and certify it, or print it on letterhead paper and sign it.) I've heard electronic prints won't work.

adetia - I don't know if you've already tried this, if so, please ignore my advice. If I were in your position, I would be talking to my local police office/RCMP/sherriff's office - talk to people who fingerprint for a living, and ask their advice about the ridge issue. I am under the impression that some people simply have fingers that are hard to print.
I think we were lucky on our first try (on regular paper no less) because the woman doing the printing had a lot of experience doing fingerprints for record checks - the police station we went to is right next to a law school, and all students need to submit their prints for record checks before graduation (or something, I don't remember the story exactly) so she was very familiar with printing for this purpose, not simply in arrests. In fact, she told us that she very rarely had a refusal, and wrote us a note saying that if our prints were refused, she would re-do them multiple times for free. Perhaps there is someone like that in your town - or a fingerprint expert that can help point you towards the best of the best of fingerprinters in town....

Yah, its true. some people are definitely more experienced. The lady that I went to see at Commissionaires was actually recommended to me, and when I got there, she told me that she had had 35 years of experience doing fingerprints, and in that time only 4 rejections that she'd ever heard of. When we sent off three sets of fingerprints, I left feeling pretty confident. She did however say that electronic fingerprints are often more reliable then "traditional rolled" fingerprints because apparently the machine will try to read the fingerprint itself and won't allow you to advance to the next fingerprint if it can't get enough detail from the first to proceed. At the time it was not clear to me that you could have them printed and then send those in and they would be accepted, but the rep at the FBI said that may be a good idea since I was clearly having trouble. She also recommend that they use a product on my fingers to help elevate the ridges, and that someitmes you can "plump" up your fingers a bit to make them more impressionable. Who knows, maybe I should just eat alot of salty food the night before.

I know you have a short timeline for getting these prints back. I think you should write on the outside of the mailing envelope something along the lines of "Resubmission after previous rejection(s) - Request expedited processing for immigration deadline" then put a date of return that gives you enough time to get them to the visa office. I know they are saying that they don't do expediting anymore but someone processing the mail might see that note and help you out. Can't hurt to try, eh?
I would also send a copy of the rejection letter and the receipt for mailing the new request to your visa office and ask if they can extend your deadline as FBI processing times that are out of your control. Surely they are now aware that this delay in processing at the FBI is a problem for applicants!

congrats sogwap. so i sent mine in mid june and by mid july i called every single day and by the last week of july they siad its in process. then this monday they said it's in the mail, i'll receive it no later than this friday (tomorrow)  ..they didnt tell me if no record was found, they just told me the prints weren't rejected (sigh of releif) ...waiting for tomorrow. mine took rougly 2 months. |
