I am hoping over the next few months that the timelines will speed up.
To date, the applications are taking approximately 13 weeks to complete from date received by FBI.

Please post the following:
-When you mailed your request
-When it was received by FBI
-When you requested to have it back
-When you received your request back

I think this thread will help to show people over time if the timelines are increasing or decreasing. It will also give them an estimated time on when to expect some news back.

My time is as follows:
-Mailed request March 9, 2010 from Canada by registered mail to WV
-Request was received on March 19, 2010 in West Virginia
-Requested to have it back by April 19, 2010 (will more than likely take much longer)
-Date unknown as to when I will receive it back

I already have a thread with a bit about mine, but here it is again Smiley

-Mailed 2/16
-Recieved 2/18
-Requested 3/31 but was told I wouldn't even be in the system by then..however..
-Returned 4/8

Keep in mind I live about 40 miles from the FBI center so that may have made the mailing part of the process faster Smiley

Requested - February 28th
Rejection - March 20th
Rejection noticed received - April 1st
New prints sent - April 9th (requested by April 30th, but I just realized I only put it on the cover letter and not on the front of the envelope)

Thank you both for posting.

So it looks so far as though they are moving a little bit faster then stated on their site.
Sorry about the rejection of the prints though Harju. That must very frustrating. Hopefully your next set won't be and will be sent back to you fast.

Please feel free to post your times. It is greatly appreciated. Smiley

I've posted this before, but just so it's all together here:

Sent a letter from Florida to the FBI in late January.
They received it January 22.
The police check was returned to them March 16
Letter declaring this was written March 18
Postage metered March 22
Arrived in Ottawa March 26 (Friday)
Was in our mailbox on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River March 29 (Monday).

So, it spent exactly 8 weeks at the FBI office. He requested March something on the form, but he thinks that he forgot to write that on the envelope.

Hi ~ I sent mine to the FBI yesterday 04/14/10 by Fed Ex ~ they were received today 4/15/10  @  9:09 a.m.!  I wrote "urgent ~ immigration need by 5/15/10" on the outside envelope and the envelope with all the documents inside.  I also sent a self-addressed stamped envelope (don't know if it matters, but I did).

Now the wait begins!!!!

I mailed mine February 25th, and still have heard nothing.  I also had to request a police report from Germany, and that only took two weeks.  Go figure.  I guess the Germans aren't as busy as the FBI.

Hey MissyS, yeah a lot of regular state or country police clearances only take a couple of weeks where as te FBI always seems to take months. You think that over time, they would do something to speed up the process and make it easier of them and us.

Sent: November 19th? (Somewhere around there, non-priority regular mail I think)
Recieved: November 25th/26th
Requested Back: January 7
Recieved/Rejected: Febuary 12

2nd time:
Sent: February 13
Recieved: February 16 (Sent priority)
Requested Back: April 7 (I think)
Recieved/Rejected: April 12

I should be sending out my next few sets this week, all seperate applications... hoping at least one works.

"Quality of characteristics too low" although I went to 2 different police departments and did everything according to procedure. I'm very, very sad and don't know what to do. The lady at the FBI said "call CIC for a 'backup plan' we might not be able to ever process your prints". There's no way that last part is true. I just don't know what to do right now... Sad

That sucks!!! Try to get the FBI to give you that in writing, even an email, and give CIC a call. I know people will send their application without the FBI stuff and send the paper along later when they get it, but if they claim it's impossible to read your prints (which I don't see how!), then you should bring that to CIC's attention.

Perhaps not such a bad idea sbwv09. I am going to visit Canada in 5 days so I will be able to contact CIC then. I will call the FBI before then and see what they think (maybe a different person can recommend, that last lady... not so sure!)

-Date unknown as to when I will receive it back

- Our request was received on Jan 13, 2010.
- We wrote "urgent etc." on the outside and that it was for immigration purposes.
- We called in Feb and March to find out where they were at with our request. We were told "we don't track that sort of thing" and that they were overwhelmed with requests so they were no longer "prioritizing" any requests.
- We finally received the FBI clearance letter on April 1st, 2010.

By the way, we sent in our Sponsorship application to CIC-M anyways, without the FBI clearance. We included the State certificates along with a letter explaining why we didn't have the FBI one and that we would forward it later. They received our package on March 3rd, 2010 and they still haven't sent it back so I assume it was ok to not include it. We don't have the sponsorship approval yet but we are going to Quebec and those approvals take a bit longer...
