Please help! - My father's PR Renewal

Need help! My 72 years old father went to pickup his renewed PR card at Yonge & St.Clair station this afternoon. But he didn't get his new card because he was told he need to bring his old Chinese Passport. His old passport expired in 2009, and I remember I shredded it. My father landed in Canada in 2005. From 2005 to date, he stayed most of time in Toronto, and some time in New York and China. How can my father do to get the new PR card? He is so worried that he might lost his PR status. Please help!

Hi,

Did you really shred his passport      

Basically they need to see his old passport to check his period of stay in Canada  and if he traveled out of country. To prove that he was present in Canada and he is eligible to renew his PRC, you can show documents such as record from hospital, or bank statements, or if he is staying at senior residence than record of stay can be obtained from there.
You can call them and ask them what other documents they can accept other than passport to check that your father met the basic residency period.

Yes, I did shred my father's old passport as I didn't realize the importance of keeping it. My father do receive bank statement but he does not use his bank account, because he lives with me and I pay all the living expense. My father is very healthy and he has never been to hospital. So it might be tough to get documents from those places. He does go to LINK school, but not constantly. What other suggestions? No matter what I will call the immigration service center on Monday, and will have to go to talk to the officer who met my father yesterday. Hope he understand this situation.

Get letters from everybody your father interacts with to support your claim that he was living with you in Canada.  They could even be neighbours or other people who frequently see him.  So he never goes to a doctor but does he go to acupuncture, massage, chiropractor or anything like that?   How about a dentist?  Those can help too.
