Has anyone here was able to get a job via monster, workopolis, careerbuilder, etc. in the IT field? Are Canadian employers really strict about their skill requirements?

Nope.. someone with real experience from any part of world is welcomed for IT position. I think, it won't be as tough as getting job in other fields.

Thanks for your reply.  Would you mind me asking what area of IT are you? and what type of job are you doing?  Also, are Canadian employers conduct training to newly hired people?

ya if u have skills and ready to move in outskirts of Toronto area .. u wont  face any issues

if i can secure 3 jobs from US then u can certainly get one living in that area .. don't worry start working on your skills

thanks. the requirements in the job postings look very tough. I'm willing to start as a junior IT pro and work my way up, however, i don't see much of an opening for starting positions....

i was a software developer in my country however, most requirements I see in the postings are C++, visual basic, etc which I never had any experience at all...

last year i passed A+ certification and now i'm preparing for Network + exam. I don't know how my certifications could help me land a job...

i did get a job from those portals, i'm not sure from which exact portal they picked up my profile, i register in all of them...certification do help  you getting the job however experience is among the strong criteria for final selection...

1. Stay on the field in which you have experience.
2. Be ready to accept a job offer with one position down (lead becomes senior and manager becomes lead)
3. Exhaust all searching option in ONE shot. (apply at all job websites)
4. Linked in profiles are important.
5. I personally do not prefer placement agencies, but i have heard that they don't do obscene job like the ones in the US, they are more sincere here, so try some. (get the reviews from internet)
6. There are plenty of IT jobs, GOOD LUCK.
