Hi, I am working as a Clinical Research Associates and engaged in Clinical Trials in new drug development process. want to confirm does i falls under INDUSTRIAL PHARMACIST.
My Qualification is Diploma in Pharmacy and I have also completed graduation in Chemistry.
Please advice me on this concern.
Canada is a beautiful country with plethora of opportunities. Currently Canada is facing a shortage in many professions. These professions have been listed in the Canadian Priority Occupation List (POL). In this article we are discussing the demand for pharmacists in the Canadian workforce.
Pharmacists work in pharmaceutical companies, government departments and agencies as well as in drug research. There are two main categories of pharmacists i.e. the Hospital/Community pharmacists and the Industrial pharmacists.
Community pharmacists:
•Dispense prescribed drug dosage •Proper storage of pharmaceuticals •Offer consultative services to customers and health care providers While industrial pharmacists:
•Engage in research •Clinical trials •Quality control •Analyze risk factor of drugs •Promotion of drugs The specializations under pharmacists are:
•Clinical pharmacist •Community pharmacist •Druggist •Hospital pharmacist •Industrial pharmacist •Pharmacist •Retail pharmacist The minimum requirements to be professionally admissible in Canada:
•A bachelors degree in Pharmacy or related field is a must •Relevant training •Licensure required for Hospital and Community pharmacists The compensation in this field:
The compensation is simply great on average CDN$35-45 is paid for an hour. With the hourly figure as high as CDN$57!
The employment prospects for pharmacists:
Pharmacists are listed in the 29th position of the high demand jobs in Canada. The overall demand in the nation is constant, but the following provinces and territories are experiencing more shortage than the rest.
British Columbia: This province offers good scope for pharmacists. The number of hospitals is highest in Lower Mainland Southwest, Vancouver Island and Coast Regions hence there is a rising demand for pharmaceutical services. The estimated employment this year is 4240.
Saskatchewan: Employment opportunities are particularly good in the Regina area.
Alberta: Job prospects are great in this province. With the recent changes in the Alberta health legislation, the demand for pharmacists has seen a never before rise.
Manitoba: The estimated employment this year is supposedly 1,095.
Nova Scotia: The job prospects are great in this province. Areas like Annapolis Valley, Antigonish, Pictou, Guysborough, and Cape Breton Island are experiencing an acute shortage.
New Brunswick: Areas like Campbellton, Bathurst, Caraquet, Miramichi Fredericton, Woodstock, Grand Falls, Edmundston and other local areas are experiencing particular shortage.
Ontario: Areas like Hamilton-Niagara Peninsula-Brantford Area, London-Woodstock Area and Ottawa region are particularly experiencing more shortage.
Prince Edward Island: On a general basis the province offers good scope for pharmacists.

You will belong to NOC 4165
I appreciate your response on my post. Well i have completed my D. Pharm in 2000 after that i have worked a registered pharmacist till 2008 which provide me enough experience for NOC 3131 as a community pharmacist. After 2008 i have joined clinical research industry as a Clinical Research Associate, my involvement is in new drug development process where following few duties are common with Industrial Pharmacist duties. Industrial pharmacists perform some or all of the following duties:Participate in basic research for the development of new drugs Co-ordinate clinical investigations of new drugs Develop information materials concerning the uses, properties and risks of particular drugs Evaluate labelling, packaging and advertising of drug product Now what i have observed is that Clinical Research Associate is listed under NOC 4165.So I want to explain that my current main duties is copy of 4165 duties but some of them can be considered for Industrial Pharmacist also ( I am saying with doubt in my mind). Can i be considered as a Industrial Pharmacist with existing duties? Please advice me. Regards, Sumit
