My spouse is being sponsored by me but his passport is expiring in April.  Should he renew his passport now or not cause in the application he has to write in his passport number and issue date and expiry date.  Thanks.

Renew the passport and send the photo copy of bio-data pages of the new passport to visa office accordingly. There is no problem for change of passport number when it is renewed.

My husband's passport expired back in July, so we re-did back in June. You can wait or do it now. It's your choice but just make sure you do update it before it expires. We scanned the picture page and emailed it to the embassy where our application is and  there were no problems.

I had this same question since mine also expires in April! Thanks for the info everyone.

Are there any Americans who have renewed their passport from Canada? If so, how long did it take you to get it back in the mail? I am waiting until the new year to do it with the hopes that all of my PR stuff will be done and over with so there's one less complication. I'm just curious though how long it takes to get back. Also, I assume I am stuck in Canada until it comes back, even if I have my PR?

Yes I read that already. I won't need it urgently if I have my PR by the time I send it. My question was just how long the average wait time is for people who have mailed their passport for renewal from Canada.

Renew the passport now. When you receive it, send the updated bio page to the visa office. You don't want to be rushing thru this at the last minute. You cannot travel on an expired passport. Usually it takes about 3 mths but you can get it before that by paying extra $$$.
