just wondering if Do I really have to be in Canada for straight 2 years to be a Canadian Citizen? what if I want to go back to my country for vacation? would it affect my status? coz I believe I have to be in Canada for required years for me to get my Citizenship. My status is PR, sponsored by my husband as Canadian Citizen.
One more thing, we want to visit San Francisco for holiday, do I have to get separate Visa? is yes, How?
Thank you
You have to meet the residency requirement for eligibility to apply for citizenship by being physically present in Canada. I believe it works on a cumulative total of days. In other words, time spent outside the country will not count, but being away doesn't start the clock again.
As far as going to San Francisco on holiday - the USA does not use your Canadian permanent status to determine whether or not you need a visa to visit the country. If your passport is issued by a country that is part of the
US visa-waiver program, you can enter the USA without a visa. Otherwise, you need to apply in advance of travel for a US temporary visa. I don't know how you do that - you should probably check with your country's embassy in Canada for more information, or read through the info on the
State Department website.
