Hi,
Any idea how long it takes for pcc from indian embassy in toronto.
The website says 4-6 weeks. I want to submit for it but they said they would keep the passport as well and it will be returned along with pcc

I need to travel to the states in 4 weeks and cant travel without passport.

If they have mentioned 4-6 weeks; they may ask you to wait if you contact them after submission.
But if you call them & check with them and while submitting the passport write a letter with your need to get Passport early & reference to conversation; you may get your pp (& report) early.

Hi,

I recently (Jan 2010) did my PCC from the Indian Embassy in Toronto.  I submitted my papers on a Wed, and received the PCC for both my wife and myself in the mail by the following Thu.  It was about 5 working days.  I was surprised that it came so fast.

You have to take your original passport with you.  They do not keep your passport.  They verify it and return it to you immediately at the embassy.

A couple of things -
Carry a prepaid Express Post envelope with you.
Take 2 copies of your passport (first 2 pages and last 2 pages) with you.
