Hello friends,
I am just wondering about the passport request process for outland applicants.
I am from the US applying through Buffalo. I'm fairly sure the next stage in the process for me is the passport request. I am just wondering how this works?
I hear that you have to mail them your passport and they can take a month or so to get it back to you.
I am living on an extended visitor visa in Canada with my wife(my sponsor) and all I have is my passport. When they request it do they send it back to wherever you mailed it from? Do they send it back to my address in the US? How does this work?
Do you think I will run into any problems being in Canada for the passport request process?
I just got my PPR from Buffalo yesterday, and included in the email was a link to these instructions:
http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/buffalo/visas/submit_soumettre.aspx?view=dI am in Canada as a visitor (staying with my husband), so I followed the instructions near the bottom for what to do if your address is in Canada. You send a preaddressed & prepaid Canada Post Xpress mail envelope with your passport and requested photos. They send it back to you from Canada.
Turn around time is supposed to be returned within 15 business days of receipt, so definitely less than 1 month.

I hope there are no problems with my not having my passport for the next couple of weeks, and I don't think there will be (*knock wood*). I've never had to show my passport except when I cross the border, which I won't be doing again until landing.
