I have applied for Canadian immigration as a Dentist and chances are that my application will be accepted for processing. Meanwhile I have my passprt validity exipiring in the month of Jan'2012. I would like to know whether it would be better to apply for renewal now - the renewal process usually takes 3 to 5 months in India.

I am hesitant to apply for renewal in the event that I may get notified from CIO about the further processing and if don't have the passport the process may get delayed.

Pls let me know whether how much time it would take for the first review until we know that our application is in process and later when we require our passports for some other documentations?

Regards,

hi there,
usually 3to 5 months take if u want to apply a fresh passport. but if u want to just renew ur passport it will take 20 to 25 days in normal. if u want it very fast then u can apply in tatkaal it will just take 5 to 7 days for both new and reissue.

Thanks for your feedback, I live in Hyderabad and here the situation is very bad, it is taking a lot of time even for renewal of passports.  I often read in local news paper people complaining about long delays in issuing of new or renewal of passports.

Thats the reason why I am a bit hesitant - could you give me a suggestion what to do? Or aleast if I have calrity about the whole process then I may be able to take a right decesion.

When CHC asks for PP they would need minimum 6 months validity. When you buy tickets you need minimum 6 months validity again.

Looking at the above mentioned facts, you would need a new PP, my suggestion is apply for new passport now. My opinion is that your PP will take around 2 months and not 3-5 months

you should go for renewal of your passport, u dont need your original passport during process untill and unless u received your medicals. My passport was also expire during process and get it renewed after receiving my medicals.
