You should submit your passport to the visa office (Canadian embassy) when your PR application is approved. The visa office will send you a request for that. Without submitting passport, visa stamping is not possible. You may need to take few days leave before submitting passport for visa.

from your previous posts I believe that you are a british citizen?  in this case you dont need to submit your passports to canadian high commission, you will get a document called COPR(confirmation of permanent residency) which you can take along with you when landing.

in only few cases they have asked for the photocopies of passport and couple of photographs but not the original passport!

You may wish to read the operations bulletin where visa exempt citizens no long have to submit the passport, but just photocopies of the passport.  http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2011/ob348a.asp
