Hi there

I applied for sponsorship of my mother in Feb 2006. Received the approval to sponsor from Mississauga office in June 2008. Sent the application forms to Islamabad in July 2008. Few days back my mom received a letter from Islamabad embassy to update the forms and send the latest copy.

My Father's name is "Kassim Ali" but on my moms Passport its written as "Kasam Ali" and there is no way i can change it back to "Kassim Ali" now (name change on Passport in Pakistan is a Big deal and its next to impossible to get it changed). The national ID cards in Pakistan are in Urdu and when the translation is done in English (for passports), my fathers name can be written either as "Kassim Ali" or "Kasam Ali". I guess this is what happened when my mom made her passport...

Now the question is,

1. If i send the request for correction to Canadian Consulate in Islamabad along with the latest forms, will they do it or they will say that since they have to change the name on the application, its not possible and i have to re-apply for immigration from the beginning.

2. If i don't inform them (they haven't asked me about this discrepancy yet, even tough they have the copy of her old passport), will they be able to issue a PR visa on a passport that has slightly different spelling than the original PR application?

Does any of you have any experience with changing the name AFTER the application has been submitted? Please let me know as i am really worried what to do next...

Thanks

Don't try for correcting the spellings for the name of your father. While making new application form  she (your mother) has to write your father's name ( mean -  her husband's name ) -  in your native language also, which is "Urdu". Write in urdu his name as "KASAM ALI".
Staff in visa office at Islamabad is aware of such silly spelling errors. It is very common in many countries. Don't consider it as a big problem.
