Hi,

I would really appreciate it if someone helped me with the following:

I am sponsoring my parents. The application has now been transferred to delhi. I am confused about the following requirement as listed in the guide:

Provide proof of your relationship with your sponsor in Canada:

• A copy of your sponsor's original Record of Landing (IMM 1000) or Confirmation of

Permanent Residence (IMM 5292). You must be declared as a dependent on this document.

I assume this only applies to cases where a person is sponsoring their children? Does this apply to my case of sponsoring my parents. My record of landing does not list any dependents.

Please help

Your parents are not dependents and thus do not need to be listed on the COPR, however, they should have been listed in the information sheet that you had to file with your original PR application.

as a 'proof of your relationship with your sponsor' works the birth certificate where it is mentioned that they are your parents.
also you need to provide a proof of your PR status in Canada by original Record of Landing (IMM 1000) or Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292) as they require.

I am a bit confused. I did not list my parents on the information sheet when i first got my PR as i was sponsored by my wife.

Is this going to be an issue or am i ok with just submitting birth certificate as a prrof of relationship to sponsor.

thanks

If you didn't declare them, what did you write on IMM0008 SCHEDULE 1, #7 and #8 and IMM5406 #A?

Hello,

Maybe i have confused people. I applied to sponsor my parents using Guide IMM 5196 and associated formss. Now adter almost 2 years, my application to sponsor my parents has been approved and sent to Delhi. My parents are supposed to receive Guide IMM 3998 and associated forms like IMM008 directly from the canadian consulated in Delhi.

As part of the application, my parents are required to show proof of relation to sponsor. As per the guide :

"Provide proof of your relationship with your sponsor in Canada:

• A copy of your sponsor's original Record of Landing (IMM 1000) or Confirmation of

Permanent Residence (IMM 5292). You must be declared as a dependent on this document"

The above statement confuses me and would appreciate it if someone can share their experiences.

thanks

Your parents will not have been listed as dependents anywhere. Perhaps that applies to other categories that are also covered by the same guide, such as adopted children and 'other relatives'.

Either way, you should submit a copy of either your Record of Landing or COPR to show you are a PR, but it doesn't prove your relationship to your parents. I would assume your birth certificate would be used for that, which is also listed on the checklist.

As for 'declaring them' in your PR application: part of the application was the IMM 5406 form (to refresh your memory: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5406E.PDF). That asks for your parents names. Surely you filled that out and submitted it with your application?
They wouldn't have been listed on the IMM 0008 (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/imm0008egen.pdf), as that's only for children/dependents and your parents are neither.
