As for CPP-O/Passport Request and US as LVO: Only those who are 'green card holders or citizens" could have picked US as LVO, anyone with 5-10 multiple US visit visa cannot pick US as LVO since they are only entitled to live 6 months at a time and requirement for other "than home country" is you have entered for atleast 1 year i.e, H-1 ( which is unlikely for Parents ) so it comes down to Green Card Holders/or citizens

Not true. I picked the Buffalo as the LVO for my mother's PR application in Dec 2011. She has nothing to do with the "Green card". She has been in Canada for more than 4 years on a visitor visa after several continuous extensions.

Hello everyone,

First of all, I'd like to congratulate all of you for creating such a wonderful forum for supporting ourselves for bringing our families to Canada.

I'm sponsoring my mother. I sent my application in April 2008. I received request for additional documents on December 1st, 2011. I submitted those documents a week later. My sponsorship application was approved in January 2012 and the case was transferred to CPP-Ottawa. She did the medical exam in February; medicals were received in March. Since August 4th, I see on the E-Cas "Decision Made" but I haven't received anything yet.

I've read the above post regarding the letter (or email) sent in July to similar cases to request the passports. I'm curious whether the people could include a self-addressed envelope with additional postage paid so that it could be returned more securely. I don't know what are the options in Canada for this to buy something that then somebody else could use it from the States to mail it back to Canada and also not to be from any courier service such as DHL. Or they will only return the passport (from Seattle) to Canada by regular mail - is that what they are saying?

Thanks.

My understanding is Seattle will send passport to Canadian and US address by regular mail. But you could supply prepaid express envelope from USPS if you want to receive your passport to an US address.

Your mother is not US citizen? or green card holder yet you could pick it as LVO. I don't doubt your reply but this seems impossible as from what I read that you need to pick home country only. So far, you were approved and no issues? I am tempted to ask around again as this would have been better

I mean, so many parents have US visit visa, it would have been better to pick US as LVO, has anyone heard about this setup before

Also, you managed to get extensions for 4 years? 6+6+...continuous, vow that's something too. I can understand 3 or 4 max, but thats a lot! What reasons did you give

BTW, what nationality are you -- can you share your timeline etc

Well, here you go

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/step-by-step.asp

Question 4

Immigration Office requested for the processing of your application

Indicate the name of the Immigration Office which serves:

        your country of nationality, or
the country in which you are residing, provided that you have been lawfully admitted to that country for at least one year.[/size]

Note: Do not select the CIO as the immigration office requested to process your application. Although you may be required to will submit your application to the CIO, you must indicate the name of an appropriate visa office using the criteria above.
=======================

So your mother was allowed to live in US for 1 year? visit visa only allows 6 months so what type of visa did she have for USA?

I think everyone will appreciate your reply in details as this can affect future applicants

Parentsponsor already told that they do not need visa for US or Canada,so I think thats why they Picked Buffalo.I guess they could go to US and renter Canad which is not a problem for them and again get 6 months ext or new entry whatever that is.If I could have this option I could have opt it.Less backlog as compared to my backhome LVO.
I think anyone  can pick any visa office as far as they can show that they are entered legally there  and residing there.I remember something like that while filling out the initial application back in 2008.

Re-submitted documents in July 2012 to CPC-M.
Waiting for AOR/Approval.

No idea how long to wait before sending an inquiry?? 2 months?

We are from the Philippines. My daughter sponsored us. We just had our medical and the clinic gave us a letter address to an ophthalmologist requiring a report from said doctor regarding the significance and medical implication to rule out diabetic retinopathy  which was noted during our eye examination . ( both my husband and I are diabetic). May I know if anyone in this forum encountered same ? Is there any procedure that the ophthalmologist will perform on us ?

I missed that but parentsposnor said, their parents are living here with continuous extensions which led me to believe that they require visa but regardless of that - if you are from a country who doesn't require visa for US or Canada - you are still only entitled to live for 6 months ata time and the the requirement for picking alternative LVO is that you are allowed to live for at-least 1 year

Let me repeated that my mother has been here in Canada for more than 4 years. Therefore the country she is legally residing for at least one year is Canada and the US consulates are the LVOs for applicants in Canada. It has nothing to do with the "Green Card" or US visa etc. She didn't need so many visa extensions as you mentioned because sometimes she got one or two years extension (normal visa not the super visa). I think the key is the the inviter has a strong background(financial, employer etc) rather than the reasons which everyone could make.

Could you post your complete timeline ( nationality too ) , perhaps this could help someone in the future that if you are allowed to live in Canada for 1 year, then US can be LVO for them - very interesting indeed I understood it as it has to be the country where the LVO is, but this is more like a proxy

But now since Buffalo shut down, its back to CPP-O

If the DMP referred you to an opthalmologist he/she knows, I suggest you refuse and pick an opthalmologist on your own. Yes, you have the right to do that. Basically, what your DMP requires you to complete is a medical clearance certificate from a specialist. My dad had to see 4 specialists because the first three are not competitive, I would say. They asked my dad to have CT SCAN which I absolutely refused because I trust that my dad's medical case is innate and if it is really necessary for my dad to get that CT SCAN, I told the DMP over the phone that I would prefer MRI here in Canada. i can easily get my dad to have MRI here in Canada. Thankfully, we found a specialist in the Philippines who has a US education background.

The opthalmologist will just do thorough physical examination of your eyes. It should not take more than 1 hour. Maker sure to pick a reputable opthalmologist. My parents are from the Philippines po.

My timeline so far:
Applied for parents sponsorship in December 2007
Acknowledgement letter in March 2007 or smth like that
A letter requesting additional documents (as per the Nov 5 2011 announcement): November 28 2011

Still in process of completing the forms and getting supporting documents from parents (who are currently in their home country). Turned out to be a tedious process in our case to get this done, hopefully I will not be too late :-(
