It doesn't matter that you attempted 7 times, but the good thing is that you eventually got the coveted result.

For those who want to appear in ielts:
I have successfully cleared IELTS (academic in 2002 and general in 2009). In my opinion, the following two books are really helpful because they actually make you understand, what the examiners are looking for in IELTS.
1)Insight into ielts (get latest version from Saeed book bank or any other book store nearby) 2)Step up with ielts (sorry if i have written the wrong name, it is either step up or step into ielts)
Both of the books are recommended by british council.
A few tips i would like to share: 1). Listening practice: (watch bbc, and english dramas [Dvds available in big stores] for a month atleast and try to understand what exactly they say rather than concentrating on their actions) 2). Reading practice: (if you have practiced the reading and still you are unable to get the required score in GT module, try academic reading and prepare for it, it is far tougher than GT module and once you are average with academic, try GT module again and you would see the difference 3) Writing: there is so much material available online, just google it. 4) speaking: i followed the pattern given in insight into ielts and practiced alot with a friend using the same pattern given in the book.
These tips worked well for me .. i hope this would be useful.
best of luck
