Overstaying visa

My boyfriend's visitor's visa expires in two weeks and we would like to extend his stay in Canada.  He holds two passports, and we are wondering if he can return to Canada on his second if he overstayed on the passport which he entered Canada.
We are waiting for documents for our newborn so he can be registered as a citizen of his father's country - reason for why my boyfriend would like to overstay his visa - so we are also curious if this could somehow help our case.

Why not apply for an extension of the visitor visa now. He will be in implied status if he sends his application for extension  before his allowed visit expires.

From what I understand, you need to apply for an extension at least 30 days before his visa expires.  We only have a couple of weeks left.

That's what the guidelines say but you can send it before it expires. Send it by courier so you know it got there before his visit expires.

We were deterred from applying for an extension this way because of the expected 90+ processing times which would result in him overstaying his visa.  BUT what you are saying is that if we apply, whether he will be rejected or not, during this period he will not be here illegally AND there will be no repercusions for overstaying??

Precisely. He would be in "implied status" until he receives a response from CPC-V.

If your current temporary resident status is still valid you can apply for an extension of your stay providing
you apply at least 30 days before the expiry date of your current status. Your original temporary status as a
visitor continues under the same conditions until your application is finalized and you have been notified of
the decision

it doesn't really matter now - the main thing is to get application in there before your visa expires.

You don't even need to get your application into their office before his visa expires.  Getting the post office timestamp before the visa expiration date is good enough
