I can't remember the correct email address, but yes... fill out, sign, scan, attach and email it away.  Yes, provide the stamp in your passport to prove you are in Canada.  We included my husband's visit visa that was stapled to his passport as proof he is in Canada.

I just sent my request without passport copy because it simply asks for the proof if you are sending the request from out side canada for canadian citizens.
here is quote ,

Also, your first request must include proof that the requester is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or present in Canada if making the request from outside Canada

Yes you can order your GCMS notes by e-mail. Many many have, including myself.  And you get them back to you by e-mail as well.

how can you show proof someone is present in Canada if they're outside of Canada?  "Also, your first request must include proof that the requester is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or present in Canada if making the request from outside Canada"

when you filled out the application if you checked the privacy act box it says (proof of citizenship or permanent residence or proof of presence in Canada)

i think what it means is that if your from outside of Canada and your requesting the info for someone else you have to give proof that the people your requesting info for are inside Canada.

i could be wrong.

The principal applicant must request the notes, however if they are not in Canada, they can authorize someone who IS in Canada to do so.  The person requesting the information has to be INSIDE Canada.  If that person is NOT the applicant, then the applicant has to fillout and sign a release to allow the requestor to send in the request.

You need proof that you are in Canada, if it is the applicant who has applied outland who is requesting the info.

For example, my husband is the applicant, we applied outland through Buffalo, but he is now residing in Canada with me.  He had to prove he's in Canada, so we sent in his visit record from his passport to prove that he is in Canada and is indeed requesting the information himself.

Hope that makes sense.

I did not even provide proof that I am in Canada, except for the fact that my return address was Canadian and so was the post office that processed my envelope. Honestly, most of the stuff with the GCMS notes is not that complicated, although it may seem to be. If you put your correct application file number according to Buffalo's AOR and make sure to check off "GCMS" and not the "visa file (information abroad)," you will get your notes from ATIP without disturbing the processing of the file abroad.

Nope, as I applied after coming to Canada on a study permit, my address has never changed. Also, I wouldn't recommend changing it on e-CAS. CIC doesn't get the memo that way, apparently. You should  send any auxilliary information to the address they earmark for "RPRF payments and other correspondence."

My husband came up to visit, he changed his residential address to his daughter's address in the states, and we changed his mailing address to my address here in Canada.  That way correspondence come to us here.  Lots of people visit during the process... you dont need to worry so much.

HI Jenny parsely

EDIT: You will be ordering under the "Access to Information Act".  Forms can be found here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-atip.asp

You can follow the details in the following thread.  For your case, instead of giving your spouse's information as mentioned in the post, it will be your in-law's.

Sorry, it seems the information in the earlier post was outdated (because the form has been redesigned).

Please follow the offical instruction (www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5563E.pdf).
