OPTION C PRINTOUT... ???
«

hi everybody!
question:
if a sponsor don't have to meet the low income figure in order to sponsor somebody, and doesn't have to show proof of income, why do they ask for that Option C printout (what is it by the way?) and the letter from the employer with salary and everything?
What happens if you don't provide those documents?
Thank you so much for your answers !

Hi Lauryn
Although there is no minimum income requirement when sponsoring a spouse/partner you are not allowed to be receiving any sort of government assistance other than for a disability, and the sponsor is still responsible for meeting the basic needs of the applicant. I believe you need the Option C printout and other information to show that this is possible (even if CIC is not looking at the actual
amount
of income received).
From the CIC guidelines the Option C Printout is "the equivalent of the last notice of assessment you would have received in respect of the most recent taxation year and will serve as a basis for the calculation of your income. This printout is issued by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA, formerly CCRA) and you can obtain it free of charge by calling 1 800 959-8281." Apparently it only takes a few days for them to mail this out to you but if for some reason you absolutely cannot get it I'd include as much other information as possible such as your last tax assessment etc.
You should include
all
the documents CIC requests or you risk having your file returned as "incomplete" or at the least there will be delays in processing as they wait for you to produce these items later (and who wants that?? :-) )
Hope that helps.

My understanding is that if you didn't provide any documents related to your recent earnings (option C, etc) is that your application would likely be considered incomplete.
It's standard documentation requested - I wouldn't be concerned about the amounts (level of income). However they need to see that you aren't receiving any financial assistance (as Gdaymate already explained).

what would happen if we send it later on? My husband didn't do his taxes this year and he had to do it now and until it's done we can't ask for the option C, and it's taking foreveeeeeeeeeer! this is really slowing down the process, we couldn't start yet... plus i have to apply for the extension of my visa that expires on february (I really hope they give it to me :-S )
I'M GONNA GO CRAZY!!!

send the option C for 2005 and the letter from his employer and a letter from you or your husband stateing why you dont have 2006 option C then send it in once you get 2006, thats what we did but our application hasnt been processed yet, i will let you know because it should be processed next week according to the website date.we are doing outland, and i heard for inland you have more time to send in these additional documents compared to not having them with outland apps.
