Opinion needed from already landed immigrants (Esp. telecom/PM background)

Hi Folks,
I need your kind opinion about couple of queries stated below, especially from those who hv already landed and are from telecom or project management background.....
about myself....I'm a telecom professional with 6 years of experience with a PMP certification as well......
i've heard a lot that once one lands in canada, canadian qualification or canadian work experience is required/preferred for jobs. Then few of my friends told me that in telecom field, sometimes they can hire you without any of these, if your experience is wht they need....
1): is it true or just a story ...
2): moreover...... for a new landed immigrant, how helpful can a PMP certification be if one has a foreign qualification & foreign work experience ? or still one needs to acquire suitable candian qualification for finding a job in his/her own field ?
Thanks in anticipation !
Cheers !

Most of the high profile roles requires Canadian experience but if you have good communication skills and you can demonstrate that you have desired skills than there are alot of new immigrants who got good jobs without any previous Canadian experience.
