Open work permit - procedures and what happens next

Hello All,

My husband and I will apply for Sponsorship & PR within Canada in a few weeks
but we still have some questions about the Open Work Permit.

We have read that the Open work Permit is issued after the AIP about 6 months after submission.

The questions are:

1. Before I send all the forms full filled, to express that I want to receive the open work permit,
as long as my husband is approved in AIP, Do I just need to write "OPEN WORK PERMIT" at the top
of my IN-CANADA APPLICATION FOR PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS? and Do I need to fill any other extra form?

2. As soon as my husband is approved, What happens with my open work permit? Do I need
to go under another process ( fill forms, photocopies, pay more fees) to receive the OWP effectively
or the permission is just given right away?

You submit an IMM 1249 with your application and mark it initial work permit, and include the fee.  It will be processed at the same time as the AIP.

Hey,

I've just applied for an open work permit through my fathers work permit. I have sent everything off now and was woundering if anyone knew how long it would take before i got, and whether or not i will have to go to the border in order to get it?? I only have till december 4th before my visitor status is up. I also have a job lined up and was woundering whether my application could be fast tracked in any way?

Would really apprecaite any comments, seeing as i have a complete nightmare with this application. I know its new but like i said anything you know would help

1.  Well you will only get one if you are in Alberta or Ontario and the processing time at Vegreville is 27 days.  It will be sent in the mail.
