Hi Shyli,

Thanks for the details. i have few questions if you or someone can answer it.

i am h1b. i got ainp nomination in feb 2010 and recently submitted all docs to newyork.

my question is,

1 - once we get passport request and get visa, how much time they give to enter canada ?
2 - you mentioned, you provided them Alberta address once you were there. do we have to provide alberta address ? is it required ? or we can provide the US address if they ask ?
3 - you said, you entered US on AVR. whats AVR ? aren't you h1b to use h1b visa or AP ?

Thanks alot.

Here are my answers:
1. For me it was 8 months after I recieved passport request. Its written on the passport request letter towards bottom of the first page.
I do not know how they calculate it.
2. I was nominated by Alberta so its ethical (also to avoid any issue while getting citizenship 3 yrs later) for me to opt staying in Alberta.
But no one can stop you from staying anywhere in Canada once you got your PR. You can give any address.
you CAN NOT provide US address. They won't accept.
3. AVR is automatic visa revalidation. They let you enter US if you have valid I-94 and your visa is expired on passport. Search this forum or google for AVR and you would get more details

My eCas status has another line added in the bottom this morning. "A decision has been made on your application. The office will contact you concerning this decision.". Also, the overall status changed from In Process to Decision Made.

I hope this is sign of some good news Grin. I hade sent my passports around 3 weeks back to NY on 13th May.

All -

My wife came on H4 Visa to US and is now on H1b with an expired H4 Visa. So basically there ic change in status as well as expired visa. Is it going to be OK if she uses AVR?

Would really appreciate any responses based on your research or personal experiences.

Thanks Despo..
No I just applied for SIN. I believe you need to apply for Health Card when you start staying there permanently. Not sure though.

Also wondering how they keep track of your stay inside Canada as I did not see any exit date stamp on my passport by Canadian authority neither US immigration put any date on my passport Roll Eyes

to purpleyum,
When I applied last year on Jan 2009, I had been on H1b just for 4 months. I didn't wait until a year. So, I think you can apply now since you are already in H1B with job.

Thanx naxas....!

Hi Shyli I had same thought in my mind when i left canada and entered into US. I am pretty sure US/Canada share and exachange data on daily  basis about arrival and departure information through their border.

i will find out more about Health card over the weekend.

I have got my SIN cards delievered to toronto address ( Friends address ) yesterday. ( Incase someone wondering ) Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue I am happy.
Thanks Despo..

Ottawa office wants all results delievered together to them. I have read this information at some point but i can't recall the source. You can do what you said but might delay your process little bit. Please try to find some old pages on this forum once upon a time i had very good info on this topic and i remember posting it on this forum.

Good luck.
