Hello there,

May we know if your spouse's status in the US is causing a long delay in the background checks. Or you folks have resided in numerous countries. Also I have heard status in the US is nothing to do with Canadian immigration, unless status concern/deportation pops-up in the FBI report.
Best of lucks dude....

Pokha69 my spouse is not in the US and  has never been out of status. We've only been to the US and home country. Also you heard right about being out of status in the US having nothing to do with Canadian immigration  if you meet the criteria and have no criminal records.

My application was received by CIC on 23rd March and my Cashiers Cheque is still outstanding and I haven't received my application package back for correction.

Any idea? Anyone else in the same boat?

Hello all,

Like many I have sent my PR Application to CIC in Feb this year and am waiting the AOR. In the mean time I am planning on taking a work offer from Alberta and going to Canada on a Work Permit. 1) Does having a work permit/working in Alberta while awaiting AOR help speed up things at Buffalo ? 2) If so, what would I need to do to help expedite things?

Appreciate any experiences/words of advise.

From personal experience - no!  Getting a work permit in Alberta and starting a job here will have no discernible impact on CIC's processing speed.  You will have to wait in line like everyone else.

This is just my experience, others may have a different opinion.  Good luck!

Cheers,

Thanks for sharing your experience aNewHope. Yes, I do look forward to see what others' experience is too. Although, we are still required to routinely notify of our Work Permit status to CIC, right ?

You are welcome, shvr007.

I am not sure what you meant by routinely notify of our work permit status to the CIC.  I applied to CIC after I moved here.  The status in my application to CIC is still my status, so there was no change to notify them of.  Even if your status changed, I am not sure if you are needed/expected to notify the CIC.  You have to notify AINP once you receive your PR, but that is it.

By 'routinely', I meant that in addition to notifying CIC of my change in address, that I may also Required to notify that I am no more on H1B status in the US but on a work permit in Alberta.

Priya,

The AOR/MEDICAL for  Dec applicants was 3 months on the dot. For Jan applicants it is 3.5 months so far. Assuming CIC received your app on Jan 20th, May 5 should be the day for you....hopefully.
