Is it possible for a US citizen to apply for in advance a one-year temporary resident visa? I have an official reason to be in Canada for one year that I can document. I can also prove intention to leave (a job waiting for me) and that I can support myself with funds that I will receive from the US each month. I could obtain a letter of invitation easily. I would be in Quebec, in case that makes a difference.

I would like to obtain a 1-year multiple entry visa in advance of starting my trip, as I will be moving there for the year and taking on an apartment lease. Does this sound possible? How to do it?
Thanks
