one year working in Canada - working remotely - continuous US employment

I've found a few posts on this topic, but still not clear.

Is it permissable for a US citizen to temporarily move to Canada for one year, maintaining their existing US job (ie working remotely)?  What work permit (if any) would be required?

The person has a bachelor degree in business, and is working in business, however the job does not have any ties to Canada.

The temporary move is for personal reasons, to stay with a Canadian Citizen.

The person also has a child, that would attend public school for one school year.

1.  You can visit Canada and work remotely for a US company as long as there are no Canadian connections.
2.  The rub might be allowed to stay as a visitor for a year, the usual time line is 6 months, and then you have to apply for an extension.
3.  The child would require a study permit and would have to pay international fees, about $11,000 per year.  Also you would have to have permission from either the other parent or courts to remove the child from the US>
