Hi,

my friend at work had a work permit that ran out on september 1st last year, he was on implyed status until early november i think.
he has his PNP through work and has applyed for a new work permit which i think he should probly get this time (i think he had the first few refused?).
he has been working through all this in the same job and has been on payroll the whole time. when he gets his new work permit can he renew his SIN?
and what about taxes? what happens?

Thanks for any help given, he is quite worried right now, just trying to help him out.

Your friend would have been on implied status until he was informed of the decision which you mentioned was in November in the form of a refusal.  He should have stopped working at that time.  If he continued to work after a work permit was refused he has been working illegally.

When you fill out an application for a new work permit it asks if you have worked illegally.  I'm guessing he did not answer yes to this in his current application.  I hope someone can give your friend more advice on how to handle this.
