Hi, I am sure this question has been asked and answered a lot.   But I cant find in a search and google search seems out-dated. I was wondering, how , and where I can obtain a marital status document saying that I am single, that will be "official" for Canada and Russia. I live in Alberta now, lived 98 percent of my life in Nova Scotia. thanks for any help

Is  it that you require this document in order to get married? i think if you are getting married in canada, you dont need it. but if you are getting married in russia, you can obtain it from the canadian embassy/consular in Russia itself. I needed this document too, and i obtained it from the canadian consular from the country where i got married. I hope it helps. If not, i am sure there are seniors in the forum who can help you out.

Hi

Canada: Certificate of Non-Impediment

Canada does not supply a certificate of non-impediment, however you can apply to the Departments of Foreign Affairs and International Trade for a "Statement In-Lieu of Certificate of Non-Impediment to Marriage Abroad".

Applications must be made by mail and accompanied by:

If you were born in Canada, a certified copy of your birth certificate.
If you were not born in Canada, certified true copies of your Canadian citizenship card and Record of Landing form.
A statutory declaration of your present marital status and the name and citizenship of your future spouse.
A certified copy of a divorce certificate or divorce judgment if divorced or a death certificate of a previous spouse if widowed.

There are a number of countries who will not accept this document and require instead that you get a letter or statement at the Canadian Embassy, in the country where you will marry, to the effect that there are no impediments.

in my continuing research i have discovered on  a website ( I know don't believe all you read) that the Russian registery (zags) will only accept " non-impediment of marriage abroad" documents which are not more then 3 months old ( according to date of issue). Anyone have experience in my situation? and...

Am I in the right forum for asking question about a" Canadian going to Russia to marry a Russian lady"? Or will I be better served in a different forum/topic?

Try this thread, it's for applicants with Russian spouses, which are processed through Moscow.  Someone in the thread must be able to relate. Smiley
