I know this is a little off topic as we are in family class section, but we are thinking of trying the impossible and applying for a tourist visa to be able to take our daughter to visit her Canadian family for the first time. My question is if we are actually granted it how long is it valid for? If we originally say we want to travel in June but decided to wait till September will the visa still be valid?
Thx everyone for your advice

If you apply for a single entry temporary residence visa, they are usually valid for 6 months, from the day you submitted the application papers.
Multiple entry visas can be valid for as long as the officer gives... usually anywhere from 1-5 years, however the individual can not stay in Canada on the visa for longer than 6 months at a time, unless they apply for an extention.

I'm just going by what my boyfriend's visitors visa said... It said it was issued on the day we applied for it, and it had an expiry date of exactly 6 months later, which was on the official visa. Maybe each embassy has a difference in their visitors visa, Im not sure. Sorry.

He applied from Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic. Depending which country you're applying from, they can be very hard to come by. They are not easy to get in Dominican Republic, but if you don't try, then you definitely won't get it. It's worth a shot!
